SLENINGFORD REVISITED

There's something about a glimpse of sunshine in this soggy English summer that makes us down tools immediately and head outside to make the very most of it. We had noticed that a favourite minor country house, Old Sleningford Hall, was opening its garden for the weekend and realised that it was 16 years since we'd last had the pleasure of accepting the Lord of the Manor's gracious invitation.

Greetings and thank you, kind sir!

This is not a really a plantsman's garden, though gorgeous blooms abound...

...it's more a magical garden with secret places and enchanting vistas.

Ah yes, we've been this way before...

... time softens everything and, sometimes, bits drop off too (see back of stone seat).

I wish this was my courtyard...

...and that I could borrow these ladies to make tea, occasionally.

Goodbye, until next time...

  1. Enjoyed the trip around the garden - love the picture in the wood with the statue. I am confused, are the pictures before from 16 years ago and after i.e. now. If so you have hardly aged at all in 16 years.

    1. Yes, it is - I think I'm on a quest to find the most beautiful places in Yorkshire at the moment. Trying to cure longings for my roots in Southern England...

    1. Thank you Julie - we wish places like Seaton Delaval & the Northumbrian coast were nearer to us. We really should make the effort to go just a little further on a day-trip. We're always too tired to venture on after a lively Caygill antiques fair!

  9. Just stumbled across your blog - bookmarked!
What good photographers you both are - and you obviously have some better weather than we over the Pennines in Lancashire.

  10. ps to previous comment - just noticed that you, too, are a Southern girl in the North. Yorkshire is definitely prettier than this side of the Pennines. Lynn

    1. Thank you for looking Lynn - we're just back from a trip down South so I've only just seen your comments. I've got some favourite places in Lancashire too - the Clitheroe area for instance. It's not all grim up North!
